Looking After Your Mental Health While Working from Home

Here at Blynk, we understand that everyone is being impacted differently. We are still feeling the impacts of Covid-19 across the business and like so many companies had to shift to working remotely.

Working from home can pose several practical and mental challenges and taking the time to look after your mental health has never been more critical. We wanted to share some tips from our team that we have found useful for establishing healthy habits and keeping everyone connected.

1. Set Boundaries

Make sure that you have a dedicated workspace that is distraction-free and decluttered. Try to keep this space separate from your home space as much as possible. Have everything that you could need for your workday ready and set up. When the day is over, switch off! Try to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid blurring the lines.

2. Create Healthy Routines

Find a healthy routine that works for you! Your routine does not have to be boring or monotonous. You could find little ways to make each day feel different. Mix it up until you find what works best for you. Include breaks into your routine, just like you would if you were at work. You don’t have to be glued to your desk, grab a cuppa once in a while!

3. Take a Proper Lunch Break

Make the time for the most important break of all! Use your lunchtime to step away from your workspace and take the time for yourself. Go for a walk, exercise, meditate, whatever you need to do to recharged and ready to go after lunch.

4. Stay Connected

Keep lines of communication open with your colleagues and have daily contact. Ideally, try and get face to face video call or phone calls as well as messages. Perhaps have a social chat running alongside a work one, so people have a place to check-in with each other, talk and discuss the latest TV shows. Whatever you need to get that little bit of social time into your day.

5. Be Kind to Yourself

Finally, be kind to yourself! These are unusual times, do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it or feel overwhelmed. Celebrate and be proud of your achievements each day, even if it is something small..
